The History of Novato

Novato, California is a city located in central California that has a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century. The city was originally founded as a result of the Gold Rush, and it quickly grew into a thriving community. Today, Novato is home to more than 55,000 people and offers plenty of opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The history of Novato is one of the many things that makes it such an interesting place to live.

In 1839, the Mexican government granted the Rancho Novato to Fernando Feliz, and eventually that same land became known as Rancho San Antonio. Novato was founded in 1858 as a result of the Gold Rush. At the time, the area was known as Rancho San Antonio and was owned by General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo. When gold was discovered in nearby hills, Vallejo opened up his land to miners who were eager to strike it rich. The town that developed around Rancho San Antonio came to be known as Novato, which is Spanish for "newcomer." By 1860, Novato had grown into a thriving community with more than 1,000 residents. The city continued to grow throughout the 19th century thanks to its fertile soil and favorable climate.
