In Spanish, Corte Madera means the imperative command, "chop wood." As one might expect, the town of Corte Madera was founded on its booming lumber industry, Corte Madera lumber built many of San Francisco's greatest buildings! Over the years, Corte Madera grew through the gold rush, and in 1980 the town merged its police department with a neighboring city, creating the Twin Cities Police Authority. Still famous for producing lumber, the small, yet charming town gives the greatest of everything that California has to offer.
The 2010 United States Census Bureau reported that Corte Madera had a population of 9,253, which is almost exactly the same as it is today. The tight-knit community remains stable, and the charming town is both an amazing place to visit, and a wonderful city to live in.
